Turn this week’s industry news into a LinkedIn post with Grok
Use Grok to pull the week’s news in your field, draft a LinkedIn post with your own take, and publish it through Finchreach after you approve it.
The short answer
Grok is good at finding out what happened this week. Connect it to Finchreach and it can also check what people on LinkedIn are already saying about the story, draft a text post with your angle, and send that draft to LinkedIn. The draft doesn’t go live on its own: it waits in your approval queue until you read it and press approve.
The connection runs over MCP (Model Context Protocol), a standard plug that lets AI apps use outside tools. Finchreach is a remote MCP server at https://mcp.finchreach.com/mcp that operates your own LinkedIn account. The most reliable way to wire it to Grok today is the xAI API’s remote MCP tool; the grok.com connectors screen may work too, with caveats covered below.
Why write LinkedIn posts about industry news?
A short post that explains what a piece of news means for your customers or your peers is one of the easiest ways to stay visible without inventing a topic from scratch. The hard part is the routine: reading the news, checking whether the story is already played out on LinkedIn, and writing something that sounds like you, every week.
Grok covers the first part well because it can search the web and X in real time. Finchreach covers the rest: linkedin_search with the content vertical shows posts about the same topic, linkedin_get_profile gives the assistant your headline so it writes from your role, and linkedin_create_post queues the finished text for your approval.
What do you actually ask Grok?
Start with research, then narrow down. A first prompt can be as simple as this:
Ask your assistant“Find the three most important news stories this week about warehouse robotics. For each, give me one sentence on what happened and one on why a logistics manager should care. Then search LinkedIn posts about the top story and tell me which angles are already covered.”
Once you have picked a story, ask for a draft in your voice:
Ask your assistant“Read my LinkedIn profile so you know my role. Write a LinkedIn text post of about 150 words on the second story: open with the practical consequence, add one opinion I can defend, end with a question for readers. No hashtags beyond two, no emojis. Show me the draft before you queue it.”
When the draft reads right, tell Grok to post it. It calls linkedin_create_post, which returns a pending action instead of publishing. You then approve or reject it at /approvals in the Finchreach dashboard.
Ask your assistant“Good. Queue that post on my LinkedIn and give me the action id so I can check its status later.”
How do you connect Grok to LinkedIn?
- Create a Finchreach account at finchreach.com/sign-up, connect your LinkedIn account under Accounts, and create an API key under API keys.
- For the xAI API, add a remote MCP tool to your Responses request with
server_urlset tohttps://mcp.finchreach.com/mcp, aserver_labelsuch asfinchreach, and your key in theauthorizationfield (example below). - For grok.com, open Connectors → New Connector → Custom, paste the same URL and complete the authentication step if the form offers a way to send your key.
- Ask Grok to list your LinkedIn accounts. If it returns your account, the tools are live.
- Follow the full walkthrough in the Grok guide and the quickstart.
{
"type": "mcp",
"server_url": "https://mcp.finchreach.com/mcp",
"server_label": "finchreach",
"authorization": "Bearer lk_your_key"
}As of October 2026, xAI’s docs say the authorization field sets the Authorization header but don’t say whether you should include the Bearer prefix. If you get a 401, try the bare key. The grok.com connector docs only say to “complete any required authentication” and don’t document a header or API key field, so the API route is the dependable one for an API-key server like Finchreach.
How do you keep news posts sounding like you?
- Give Grok two or three of your past posts as style samples, or ask it to read your recent activity in the feed first.
- Ask for one clear opinion per post. Summaries of news are easy to scroll past; a defended take is not.
- Ask Grok to cite where each fact came from in the chat, then check the claims yourself before you approve. The approval step is your fact check.
- Keep a steady, human pace, such as one or two posts a week. Finchreach doesn’t schedule posts, so the post goes out when you approve it.
- If a story is already all over LinkedIn, ask for a contrarian or practical angle rather than another recap.
What can’t Grok do on LinkedIn through Finchreach?
Finchreach posts text only. It doesn’t attach images or video, schedule posts for later, post as a company page, or report post analytics. If a news post needs a chart, publish that one yourself on LinkedIn.
Grok also can’t skip the approval queue. Every write, including posts, comments, reactions, messages and invitations, waits for you. That is by design: an assistant that reads news all day can be steered by what it reads, and the queue makes sure nothing goes out in your name that you haven’t seen.
Is it safe to let an AI post on my LinkedIn?
Automating a personal LinkedIn account carries risk under LinkedIn’s User Agreement. The approval queue and a human pace lower that risk, but nothing removes it. Finchreach acts as you, from your own account, only when you approve.
Practically, the risk you control most is quality: a post with a wrong fact or a tone that isn’t yours costs more than any tool. Read every draft as if you wrote it, because on LinkedIn you did.
Frequently asked questions
Does Grok need a paid plan for this? The xAI API is billed per use by xAI. For grok.com connectors, xAI hasn’t clearly documented plan requirements as of October 2026, and Business/Enterprise admins provision connectors first.
Can Grok comment on the posts it finds? Yes. It can draft comments with linkedin_comment_on_post and reactions with linkedin_react_to_post, and both go through the approval queue too. See AI LinkedIn comments that don’t sound like AI for that workflow.
Can I use another assistant for the same workflow? Yes. Any MCP client that can send an API key header works; see the integrations pages, or compare tools on the compare pages.
Where do I start? Create an account, then follow the docs.
