How to connect ChatGPT to LinkedIn, step by step

Connect LinkedIn at finchreach.com/accounts, add https://mcp.finchreach.com/mcp to ChatGPT as a custom connector, sign in to Finchreach and approve the LinkedIn account and scopes (OAuth, no API key). Test with a read, and approve the first draft under Approvals. One caveat: custom connectors need Developer mode, a web beta on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu.

What you need

  • A Finchreach account (sign in at finchreach.com) and the LinkedIn account you want ChatGPT to work on.
  • ChatGPT (developer mode is a beta on the web, for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu. On Business, Enterprise and Edu an admin may have to allow it).
  • About five minutes.

Step 1: Sign in to Finchreach

  1. Sign in at finchreach.com. ChatGPT signs in with OAuth, so you don’t need an API key.

Step 2: Connect your LinkedIn account

  1. Open Accounts and click to connect LinkedIn.
  2. Follow the steps until the account shows as connected.

Approval mode is on by default: nothing the assistant drafts reaches LinkedIn until you approve it.

Step 3: Add Finchreach to ChatGPT

  1. In ChatGPT on the web: Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings → turn on Developer mode.
  2. Click Create. Name it Finchreach, set the MCP server URL to https://mcp.finchreach.com/mcp (the bare https://mcp.finchreach.com works too) and choose Authentication: OAuth.
  3. Click Create. A Finchreach window opens: sign in, choose the LinkedIn account and what ChatGPT may do, and approve.
  4. In a chat, open the + menu → Developer mode and turn Finchreach on, then ask for something on LinkedIn.

ChatGPT’s connector settings offer OAuth (with dynamic client registration), No authentication and Mixed. Finchreach supports OAuth, so ChatGPT registers itself and you approve on Finchreach. There is no field for an API key, so use OAuth here.

Requirements: Developer mode is a beta on the web, for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu. On Business, Enterprise and Edu an admin may have to allow it.

Step 4: Test the connection

In ChatGPT, start with a read. It runs right away and proves the key and the account work:

Ask your assistant“List my connected LinkedIn accounts, then summarize my five latest notifications.”

You should see calls to linkedin_list_accounts and linkedin_get_notifications. Then try a write, which goes to your approval queue instead of LinkedIn:

Ask your assistant“Draft a short LinkedIn post saying I’m trying a new AI assistant workflow. Submit it for my approval.”

Step 5: Approve or reject it in Finchreach

  1. Open Approvals. The draft is there with its exact text and the account it would go out from.
  2. Approve it to publish, or reject it (reject the test post if you don’t want it live).
  3. ChatGPT can check the result with linkedin_get_action: pending, approved, rejected, executed, failed or expired.

Troubleshooting

  • No Create button: Developer mode is off, or your workspace admin hasn’t allowed it.
  • If the sign-in fails, delete the connector and create it again with Authentication set to OAuth, then approve on the Finchreach page.
  • ChatGPT asks before running write actions such as posting or messaging; that is expected.
  • 401 or “unauthorized”: the key is wrong, revoked or missing its prefix. Finchreach accepts Authorization: Bearer lk_… or X-API-Key: lk_…; check for a missing Bearer , quotes or a trailing space.
  • A tool is missing: the key’s permissions don’t include it. Create a key with the permissions you need under API keys.
  • “No LinkedIn account”: connect one under Accounts, or reconnect it if its session expired.
  • A post or message “didn’t go out”: it is probably still waiting under Approvals. Writes run only after you approve them.

Still stuck? Compare your setup with ChatGPT’s documentation, checked on 2026-10-28; client screens change often.

What to ask ChatGPT next

Ask your assistant“Summarize my LinkedIn feed this morning and pick three posts worth commenting on.”
Ask your assistant“Draft a connection note to the speakers from yesterday’s conference.”
Ask your assistant“Turn my notes from this call into a LinkedIn post draft.”

Common questions

No. ChatGPT signs in to Finchreach with OAuth and only gets a token for the LinkedIn account and scopes you approved. Your LinkedIn connection stays in Finchreach.

No, ChatGPT has no field for one. OAuth is the way in.

Disconnect or delete the Finchreach connector in ChatGPT; its tokens stop working. To switch LinkedIn accounts or scopes, connect again and approve the new choice.
